2014: for first invasion of Ukraine, Putin seized Crimea and invaded the Donbas. The world watched. Then in 2022 Putin attacked Ukraine again.

2022: Putin illegally invaded Ukraine for the second time on 24 Feb 2022; a violation of international sovereignty. The war bogged down and Putin engaged in bombing non-military targets: cities and civilians. The invader is the aggressor in this war, and the war can end anytime. All Putin has to do is leave.

2025: after 3 years of war, Trump halted military aid to Ukraine after a spat with Zelenskyy at the White House in the Oval Office Fri 28 Feb 2025.

Russia continues to bomb Ukrainian energy and civic infrastructure, roads, highways, trains, hospitals, schools, and libraries.

oligarchs also had tremendous influence in Kyiv in the 1990s, but Ukrainians still managed to vote governments in and out of office. Gradually their standard of living improved. The country developed into a model, showing what Russia could be, and in doing so, became a threat to Putin. It was suddenly clear that democracy and freedom were also possible in the East.
